St. Augustine The Nations Oldest City

StAugustineEach year we try to schedule a visit to St. Augustine – one of our favorite towns in Florida.  We set aside a weekday to avoid the crowds.   It’s easy to get around with a trolley ticket that takes you all over downtown area with a narrative of the areas history.  We rode the first loop, taking note of where we want to stop.  On the second loop we got off, explored, and got back on the next trolley.  This saved a lot of energy and time.

A stroll down St. George street is interesting as you walk past little shops, stores and restaurants and historical buildings that line the 4 blocks .    The oldest wooden school house is here and if you go through the tour you get a diploma of graduation at the end.  A real crowd pleaser  for the younger set but not recommended for your resume.  Did we mention that the whole area is loaded with children – a favorite time of year for school outings?

The legendary spring, which Ponce de Leon found and described as having restorative powers,   is located here – the “Fountain of Youth”.  Although it is proclaimed by drinking the water you will be rejuvenated and reverse the aging process,  both of us saw no noticeable change to our features or actions.  Perhaps that could be attributed to our brief visit.

The first Ripley’s “Believe It or Not” odditorium is located in historic downtown.  It’s a very interesting place and everyone should visit it at least once.  We enjoyed the visit the last time we were in town and were amazed at the weird “stuff” people collect and others are willing to pay money to see.

This year we stayed a little later than usual to view the Night of Lights display.  As it grew darker, the crowd grew larger.  More cars and people crowded the small downtown area.   We made one loop of the area and quickly decided it was time for us to head back to our fifth wheel and some peace and quiet.

INGRESS NEWS:

We both had a great day!  Overall we accumulated around 250k AP and 300 unique portals each.  The trolley ride allowed us to capture, hack, deploy, link and field while someone else was at the wheel.  We got lots of compliments from the locals on COMM.

Our last ride on the trolley was on a three car train.  We sat in the last car/last bench in the back so no one would notice us with our face-in-phone ingress posture rather than looking at the sights.  All was going well until we picked up speed on the water front.  We starting gently whipping back and forth until we turned and slid to the side.  Reminded us of playing crack the whip.  We grabbed our bags and phones and held on tight.  Yippee!!
