Lock the door…headed to the Keys!

This was our first trip to the Keys!  It has always been on the bucket list of places to see but it is a 6-8 hour road one-way trip there.  This required a lot of pre-planning on everyone’s part to make it happen.  We were lucky that the whole family could also take the time off from work to join us.

KeysRouteIt is a 113 mile drive on the Overseas Highway US 1 from the mainland to the Florida Keys.  There are
42 bridges, the longest span being 7 miles, from Key Largo to Key West with cities of various sizes along the the way.  We walked the city the first day then went back the second day to ride the trolley and gain a little history of the area.  Mallory Square, Duval Street, Mile Marker Zero, several forts and the southernmost point in the United States kept us busy and our feet tired.  We finished the day at Sunset Grill for a meal outside watching the sunset over the Gulf (or was it the Atlantic Ocean?).  We also had several wonderful pieces of Key Lime pie, famous in the area.

We saw some wildlife during our vacation.  At our campsite we saw some Key Deer native to the keys, hand fed tarpon at Robby’s, pelicans were plentiful along the water, and chickens and roosters running around in the streets…even spotted some baby chicks.

The weather was perfect.  Although rain and heavy wind were projected for the weekend, we were pleasantly surprised with the partly cloudy although humid days.  A wind picked up on our last day which cooled thinks off but no jackets required.  All in all a great time was had by all.

Ingress News:

Lots of uniques to hack and capture.  We accumulated over 300,000 AP each day due to the double AP.  It was hard to stop at the end of the day.  Completed three missions with nice badges to memorialize the visit. We both were able to badge up: Platinum in Explorer (unique hacks) and gold in Engineer (deploy mods), and Builder (deploy resonators).

For Ingressers visiting a tourist town, it is VERY worthwhile to grab the trolley and hack from there.  They seem to visit and stop at the same locations that the local populace has determined are portal worth locations.  For those areas with a high concentration they have hop-off-hop-on privileges.
